Can I build my own Cubit?
Yes, although we recommend this option only if you are familiar with computer building.
If you would like to buy a case-only kit, and build your Cubit yourself,
please go to one of our PARTNER SITES (UK and international) where this option is available.
Instructions for building your own Cubit 5 can be found HERE.
Instructions for building your own Cubit 3 can be found HERE.

What technical specifications are available?
You can view a couple of example configurations in our technical pages for
Cubit 3 and
Cubit 5. These should be viewed as a guideline, as items such as graphics cards are regularly superceded by faster versions and our retailers will
be able to offer you the latest available options. Our system retailers will be happy to build these suggested configurations but if you have a special configuration
in mind then don't hesitate to ask.

What about monitors, keyboards and mice?
Please ask our retailers for peripherals to complement the Cubits in their combination of performance and style.
However, you may also use
your
own monitor, keyboard and mouse and just buy the Cubit on its own. The Cubit 3 in our suggested configuration is
compatible with any VGA (analog) monitor, while the Cubit 5 is compatible with
DVI (Digital) monitors too. Any USB or PS/2 mouse or keyboard will be compatible with the Cubits.

What kind of support can I expect?
The exact support package will vary between retailers, but (for example) all systems bought in the UK from Scan Computers are supported with a 12-month onsite hardware warranty followed
by a further 12 months return-to-base warranty.
Email and telephone support are available throughout 24 months. Full support details can be discussed with your retailer and support contacts will be provided upon purchase.

I read about the Nanode. When is it coming?
Some of you may have read about the Nanode, prototyped in 2004.
Final designs for the Nanode have been severely delayed due to the mainboard
manufacturer's delay in producing the Nano-ITX mainboard for which this design
was conceived. You can read more

How do I keep my Cubit clean?
It is always advisable to switch off unit while cleaning.
Matt-finish Cubits: clean with a damp cloth.
Chrome or gold-plated Cubits: gently breathe on surface of Cubit.
Buff with clean soft cloth, or with chamois.
You may use a spray glass cleaner (eg Flash, Mr Muscle, or equivalent) if desired,
but do not use metal polishes as these are often abrasive.
Colour-anodised Cubits: To dust, and for normal maintenance, wipe down with cloth provided.
For spillages, wipe your Cubit with a sponge dampened
in warm water, or in white spirits. The pH balance of anodising is sensitive to alkaline solutions,
so avoid strong cleaning fluids. It is always best to
wipe your Cubit
evenly all over, not just on one spot, to maintain an even finish.
Dry with a soft cloth or allow
to dry naturally. Spillages should be dealt with immediately, as the anodised surface can stain if they are left.
We
recommend keeping your anodised Cubit out of direct sunlight as long-term exposure to UV can cause fading.

TECHNICAL FAQ CUBIT 5
How small is a Cubit 5?
The Cubit 5 measures only:
Width = 214mm (8.43 inches)
Height = 174mm (6.85 inches)
Depth = 294mm (11.57 inches)
back to top
How quiet is the Cubit 5?
The Cubit 5 takes advantage of Shuttle's heatpipe-based CPU cooling, with heatsink
and pipes transferring processor heat directly to the rear case fan. We have
also designed ventilation to flow past the hottest components in the case. This
helps to keep the system cool, while smart fan technology means that during normal
use the case fan runs at minimum speed and the Cubit 5 remains peacefully quiet,
below "whisper level" of 30db. Fans will only
speed up when processor heat demands it, eg during fast gaming.

Is my Cubit 5 upgradeable?
Yes. You can consult your post-sales support contact about upgrading. Alternatively if you are
an experienced PC builder you can upgrade hard drive, memory, mainboard and cpu for yourself. If you
wish to do this please check out compatible components on the
CUBIT 5 TECHNICAL PAGE.

TECHNICAL FAQ CUBIT 3
How small is a Cubit 3?
The Cubit 3 measures only:
Width = 210mm (8.27 inches)
Height = 147mm (5.79 inches)
Depth = 210mm (8.27 inches)
back to top
How quiet is the Cubit 3?
Because components in the Cubit 3 are mounted on aluminium trays
which in turn slot into a body made of 2kg of 5mm thick aluminium,
the construction itself is designed to dissipate heat.
This means that the Cubit 3 only requires a superquiet case fan
operating at less than 19 decibels - well below whisper
levels.
back to top
Is my Cubit 3 upgradeable?
Yes. Our suggested configuration is chosen
for its all-round capability and versatility; however if in future you should wish to upgrade
please consult your post-sales support contact.
For those of you specifically wishing to build your own Cubit 3, please consult the
list of compatible components on the
CUBIT 3 TECHNICAL PAGE.
