The Cubit 3 is configurable as a ready-to-go system as above, both for
everyday use (internet access, word processing, storing pictures and music etc) and for
niche functions such as dedicated music box, homework computer or data backup.
[It is
also available as a case-only kit from some of our PARTNER
SITES if you wish to build your own configuration. However we
don't recommend the DIY option unless you are an experienced
PC builder.]
In all cases, at the heart of the Cubit 3 systems are mainboards
from VIA, world-renowned mini-mainboard maker,
and silent power supplies.
THE QUICKSLOT SYSTEM
The Quickslot system (shown opposite) allows us to load
components onto trays outside the case and then slot the trays
in - that's how we fit so much into such a compact unit.

GENERAL CUBIT 3 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
This section is directed only to those of you who wish to build your own Cubit 3. We do not recommend you
do this unless you are an experienced PC builder.
Dimensions:
147mm(H) x 210mm(W) x 210mm(D)
Hard Drive: Accepts any standard 3.5" or notebook
2.5" hard drive.
Optical Drive: Accepts any Panasonic/Matsushita notebook slot-loading drive.
Processor/mainboard: Most current and
future Mini-ITX motherboards are
compatible with the Cubit 3, making your Cubit easily upgradeable
as new and faster motherboards are released.
Some current Mini-ITX boards:
- VIA MII-Series boards
- VIA SP boards
-
Commell (Pentium M) LV-672
Power supply: The Cubit 3 supports 5
different types of 12V DC power supply:
- Morex 60W (as found in Morex
Cubid cases)
- Lex 60W
- Lex 110W
- Ituner 120W Pico-PSU snap-on
- Ituner 200W PW200M snap-on
(VIA M/MII only)
- Qform 220W (includes custom case modification)
Included with the Cubit 3 case are four different backplate adaptors
to suit these various supplies. This means that:
Users can transfer their own (eg Morex) power supplies into
their new Cubit 3 case.
Those wishing to use a Pentium 4 Mini-ITX board such as the
Commell range boards can use a supply able to deal with the increased
power requirements (Lex 110W, Ituner, Qform supplies). Please note that some
Commell boards with I/O ports
or card slots underneath the board (eg LV-673) or with
non-standard ATX backplanes will not be
compatible with the Cubit 3.
Front ports: USB x 2, Mini-Firewire (4-pin IEEE
1394) x 1, Infra-Red receiver (RS232). Use free downloadable software
WinLIRC to teach your Cubit 3 to respond to the remote control
you already own. NB some Mini-ITX boards may not provide internal
headers for all front ports.
